Description
Sherman County's national-award-winning museum invites discovery and memories in interpretive exhibits that tell our stories: Oregon Trails, Rails and Roads (Native Americans, Oregon Trail); Wheat Through the Ages (horsepower wheat farming to sophisticated modern farming); Patriotism, Pride and Anguish (military service); Rural Living (school, dentist, general store, household); Cultivation, Conservation and Clothespins! (from horsepower to engine power and electricity).
Children enjoy hands-on experiences with grinding grain, pioneer dress up clothes, an Oregon Trail relief map, crayon rubbings on rock art replicas, hop scotch and riding our wooden horse, Goldie.
A twice-yearly historical anthology since 1983, Sherman County: For The Record, offers accounts by local storytellers on the plateau between the Columbia, John Day and Deschutes Rivers.
