Visitor Services Representative

Schedule: 9:50am-5:10pm, 2-3 days per week. Set schedule available. Working days negotiable within the museum’s operating schedule. Weekend availability preferred.

Season: June 1, 2026 – October 31, 2026.

Responsibilities:

  • Opening and Closing Duties: turning on and off lights; locking and unlocking doors; arming and disarming alarms.
  • Front Desk Customer Service: welcoming visitors to the museum, providing information to visitors, such as admission rates, restroom location, suggestions for things to do in the area, recording information from visitors (where they are from, how long they are staying, etc.) into a spreadsheet.
  • Cashiering: Processing cash and credit card transactions using a point of sale system, accurately counting change for cash transactions, reconciling cash at open/close of shift.
  • Light Janitorial Duties: Using disinfectants and cleaners to wipe down high-touch areas and glass, sweep and vacuum as needed.
  • Gift shop stocking: Maintaining attractive retail space, creating seasonal displays, restocking museum store inventory and visitor materials, notifying executive director of low inventory stock for reordering.
  • Other duties may be assigned for completion during down-time between visitor groups based on employee ability and interest.

Requirements:

  • A positive attitude, friendly demeanor, and willingness to learn
  • Working proficiency in English language
  • General knowledge of local area helpful but not required
  • General knowledge of local history helpful but not required
  • Must be 18 or older
  • Willingness to work alone one shift per week after training
  • Availability to work during scheduled museum events (July 25, September 19-20, and October 3)

Work Environment:

Cascade Locks Historical Museum is located in a 1905 historic house in Cascade Locks Marine Park. Due to the historic nature of the building, accessing the facility to complete work requires ascending and descending stairs. The building has its original windows and insulation and is frequently warm in the summer and cool in the winter. There is a hand-crank penny smasher in the work space and the office will occasionally have brief loud sounds.
