Position Title: INTERIM CURATOR, Coos History Museum, Coos Bay, OR

Rate of Pay: $36,000/yr + DOE

Reports to: EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Salary Classification: EXEMPT, FULL TIME

The Coos History Museum is seeking an Interim Curator,  responsible for the care, preservation, and management of the Museum's diverse collection. Responsibilities include but not limited to the physical care of objects in all storage areas and exhibition galleries, and the intellectual control of the collections through maintenance of accessions records, object files, and the collections management database. The interim curator is also responsible for all aspects of the annual changing exhibits program and is second in command in the chain of leadership. Position is for 6 months and eligible to apply for curator position when posted in 2021.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Museum’s standard best practices and collections management procedures 
  • Familiar with laws and regulations concerning Federal and State Fossil and Archaeological Collections 
  • Proficient in PastPerfect Collections Management System
  • Familiarity with scanning and digital photography
  • Excellent and effective written and verbal communication skills  Computer skills including Microsoft Office and familiarity with Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Acrobat
  • Basic recordkeeping practices
  • Highly motivated and demonstrates a positive image and outlook when interacting with the public and coworkers  Possess excellent leadership and interpersonal skills

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES/DEGREES

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in a related field  Current and valid driver’s license EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum of three to five years of Curatorial/Collections Management experience
  • Supervisory experience 
  • Ability to work with volunteers of all ages
