    The Monteith Historical Society (MHS) is looking for an Education Coordinator. Primary duty will be to serve as a docent for visitors to the historic house museum located in Albany, Oregon. The Coordinator will provide tours, schedule tours, coordinate volunteers, & work with community partners. Other tasks will include posting pictures and documents, sharing on social media sites and learning how to use Past Perfect software. The Monteith House was built in 1849 by Thomas and Walter Monteith, two of Albany's founders. The House was the first frame house built in Albany and today it serves as a pioneer house museum.  

     

    JOB DUTIES

    Coordinate tours and presenters, and serve as a docent at the Monteith House Fridays and Saturdays, 12 p.m.-4:00 p.m. Year-round; Wednesday through Saturday, 12 p.m.-4:00 p.m. mid-June through mid-September. Must be available for the days the Monteith House is open for tours and special events throughout the year.

    Schedule coordination will often be required between the tour groups to the Monteith House and other locations. Coordinate support for Trolley of Terror, Christmas Parlour Tour, Caroling Rides and other MHS events as required.

    Appropriate pioneer costume provided and required.

    Knowledge of history of the City of Albany, the Monteith Family, the Monteith House and its contents, and the pioneer era. This information will be provided by the Society.

    Be gracious to guests interpreting the histories listed above to all those who choose to visit.  

    Be flexible in cooperatively working with others, but also be okay with working on your own.  

    Keep the Monteith House clean. Including but not limited to: dusting, rest room cleaning and light housework.

    Keep the yard and gardens around the Monteith House neat.

    When no visitors are touring, work on a task as requested by the Monteith Society Board.

    Avoid entertaining friends or family during working hours.  No personal phone calls during tour hours.

    Attend the monthly Monteith Historical Society Board Meetings and report attendance, store sales, newsworthy incidents, and concerns.
