Located in the Wells Fargo Center Tower in downtown Portland, this museum examines the roles both Wells Fargo and Oregon played in each others' history, from the California & Oregon Stageline, to riverboats of gold on the Columbia River, to banking and express service for Oregon communities.

Exhibits include an authentic 19th-century stagecoach, an interactive telegraph. a life-size reproduction of a turn-of-the-century bank, and an authentic treasure box used to carrry gold across the country.

New in 2008! Crime Scene Investigation:  Officers in Pursuit

Wells Fargo treasure boxes carried on board stagecoaches and railroad express cars tempted many an outlaw. Wells Fargo fought back, employing special officers, or detectives, to prevent robberies and pursue thieves. Special officers looked for items stolen in robberies, suspicious characters, and clues uncovered during the chase. Items left at the scene such as weapons, bullets, footprints, tools, or clothing sometimes led to arrests. Like today, most captures resulted from solid detective work.

Learn how chief detective James B. Hume tracked down the infamous Black Bart, the "PO8," and how today’s Wells Fargo Corporate security officers prevent fraud and theft.

Exhibit includes:
•       Treasure boxes and iron safes.
•       Weapons used by robbers and express messengers.
•       Photos and documents from Hume's own case files, now preserved in the Wells Fargo Archives.
•       An audio account describing how a Wells Fargo Express Messenger stopped a train robbery.
•       Information on how Wells Fargo Corporate Security officers prevent fraud and theft today.
