The Washington County Historical Society & Museum’s mission is to preserve and interpret the county’s history, creating knowledge of the past, linking it to an enhanced understanding of the present, and presenting it in diverse educational formats.

Current Exhibits: Learn what it was like to live as a logger in the early 20th Century with Whipsaws to Chainsaws: History of Logging and Timber in Washington County. Also, be sure to check out the original Washington County one-room 1853 Log Jail, fully restored and on permanent display at the museum.

Traveling Exhibits: Learn about local Native Americans with WCHS’s newest exhibit entitled This Kalapuya Land. Another exhibit, Doing Time: Then and Now, investigates the history of crime and punishment in Washington County. Contact the museum for dates and locations.

Education Programs: We provide Scout Saturdays activities, Mobile Museum presentations for schools and community centers and a monthly Crossroads Lecture Series as well as other special events and activities to share the knowledge of our local past. Check out our website for more information.
