The Cannon Beach History Center and Museum is located conveniently off Hwy 101 at the Sunset Blvd exit in scenic Cannon Beach. In addition to art galleries, and a visitor information center, the Center houses interactive children's exhibits, rotating themed exhibits, seasonal quilt shows, and a permanent interpretive exhibit that teaches visitors about Coastal Oregon's natural history, geology, Native Americans, exploration and discovery, settlement, and development. Just blocks from Haystack Rock, the Center also offers many special events, such as a Lecture Series (near-monthly), the annual Acoustic Folk! Music Series (monthly, September through November and January through May), the annual Cannon Beach Film Festival (June), and the annual Cottage Tour (September). Other special events include writing contest and showcase Cannon Beach Writes!, classes and workshops, the annual membership drive, and the field trip program for area schools. The History Center also houses hours of oral histories, archives of historic photos, and a research library for public use. Children's activities include an interactive natural science exhibit, the Native American longhouse replica, a field trip program, and living history presentations. Plans to expand children's programming are in the works. Tours of the Center are offered daily at 1:30, 2:30, and 3:30 p.m. and as time allows throughout the day. The History Center also houses a unique gift shop, filled with historical photos, stationery sets, photo cards, magnets, children's books, history books, mugs, T-shirts, hats, hoodies, photo books, and the annual History Center Calendar. Seasonal exhibits: Jennie's Baskets, the Daggatt Family Collection, Showing until August 2010 (Native American basketry of the Pacific Northwest), Landscape of the Whale, Showing until May 2010 (wall hangings, quilts, and fabric art)
